Our last night before leaving for Jordan we went shopping for a traditional weaving of the country. We went down an alley and I spotted a store that looked like an opportunity. They only had handbags of the traditional weaving but that wasn't what Eileen wanted. The owner of the store though was more than happy to show us his fabulous carpet selection. He was Afghan who live in Iran before Kuwait and had a degree in Literature. For two hours he entertained us with stories and the history of his various carpets and their designs. It was a fun evening and we ended up buying an antique rug for a wall hanging. It was over 50 years old from Afghanistan. The story it tells about the tree of life and other interesting symbols was fascinating.
We flew to Amman Jordan Sunday after a sad good-bye as we so enjoyed our time with the family. We were greeted as we stepped off the plane and taken through immigrations, our luggage secured for us and delivered to our rooms. We have a suite overlooking Amman. Dinner was a delicious middle eastern buffet which we again ate too much. We then had an orientation meeting which excited us even more for our tour and especially me as I have always wanted to see Petra since my days studying Architecture. We will be there this evening after touring Amman, several other archaeological sights and Mt Nebo.
